I didn’t learn how to drive when I was 16. I moved out of my parent’s home where I hadn’t really been living anyway for the past year. I’d been living in my boyfriend’s parents’ home for the most part, in his tiny little room in the basement. But at sixteen it was for real. I left home and I moved to the city. My parents gave me money, so I wasn’t really on my own. But in so many ways, I was. No supervision, not even regular phone calls. No one knew where I was or what I was doing. I had to learn a lot and fast, and so I didn’t learn how to drive.
